'Gateshead on Vacation' or Hull FC as they now call themselves reached the Rugby League Challenge Cup semi-final in March but the game is remembered less for a narrow defeat but for their 'fans'. After coming so close to a Challenge Cup Final place their fans went onto the pitch, taunted Leeds fans, pulled down the rugby posts and held a running battle with the police. The HDM defined these scenes as one which brought shame to the city of Hull. They are not kidding.
After all of the effort of the council, Media and Uncle Tom Cobbler to tell the world that Hull is a progressive City, not just some end of the line hell-hole these dickheads only reinforced the image. Hull was slagged mercilessly in the national media and the crime rate and poor educational standards brought to the fore. So despite all of this effort to promote the city image and of course that mysterious 'Cog' emblem nationally Hull is seen as a backwater shithole. Nice one rugby fans!
Yes that's right, rugby fans. Hull City has been indirectly linked to the riot. Excuse me but do City fans wear £40 replica Hull FC shirts and spend another £40 going to west Yorkshire to watch a rugby match. Funny that, it doesn't run particularly true that excuse. Yet despite these fans being rugby regulars, 500 people wearing black and white shirts and a considerable number fitting the description of 'Tubby Lard of the Boulevard' the football club is being blamed. Bollocks is our answer to this.
These people are supporters of Rugby not football. It is up to rugby, the so-called 'Family Sport' to put its house in order. They have spent more than enough time trying to convince everyone that rugby is king in the city of Hull but now is it time that reality is faced. This is a football town except the City's club has pissed about for 90 years and never achieved the heights. Rugby also has undesirable fans and this needs to be sorted.
Unfortunately the City of Hull does have dickheads who do enjoy trouble at the big occasions. These are not Football fans nor rugby fans but just general arseholes who enjoy a scrap at any occasion be it closing time or sports match. Ban them from all sports. Football does not need them neither does rugby. We are in the 21st century it is about time some so called 'fans' got away from '1970's-80's violence'.
What is the point of having a £30 Million stadium built if away clubs are wary of coming to Hull for sporting events? The image of Hull fans has to be improved and the ball is most definitely in the court of Hull FC. They have embarrassed the City. Sort it out!
Even worse that Hull FC fans are those of Galatasaray. We don't know what exactly happened in Turkey but a Turkish gang in Istanbul stabbed two Leeds fans to death. The Turkish fans ignored a minute's silence, made death threats to Leeds players and overall made this genuinely a trip to hell. The Turkish club made the trip as unpleasant as possible for everyone from Leeds and have shown very little remorse to Leeds fans. They have since tried to make advantage out of the situation by demanding neutral grounds or demanding that their fans to come to Elland Road. Turkish fans have been banned because that would remove the likelihood of any reprisals in Leeds. All of this has upset the Turks. They should be thankful they have not been banned from European football. If these events happened in England you could expect our clubs to be banned once again. The Turks hold a 2-0 advantage in the two-legged semi-final and everyone wishes that Leeds can win through. Galatasaray deserve nothing. Murderers and those who have condoned this in Turkey deserve nothing. They should be kicked out of European football. This hostile intimidation of away clubs is virtually ritualistic whilst they play in Europe. The murders have moved this to a new extreme but it should no longer be allowed within sport.
