CITY BACK IN THE SHIT!

Hull City’s season looks like falling away at the beginning of the New Year. Hopes were high of instant promotion or at least a playoff position. Following a 3-2 home defeat to Peterborough we now lie 17th and 10 points behind the lowest playoff position.

The early season optimism is falling away and it is hard to see this side reach the top seven by May. Hopes of a visit to Wembley before its demolition are fading fast.

This side performed heroically last season. The so called ‘Great Escape’ brought a points total for the last 4 months equivalent to automatic promotion if this could have been transferred to a full season. This season it just hasn’t happened. The big difference may be that last year the club needed to win points at all costs to avoid relegation from the league and subsequently the players needed to fight to ensure their livelihoods as well paid professional footballers could be continued. This year the team has had to go out and win games for other reasons. There is a major difference between battling for any points and going out to win sides. This has not translated to players or indeed the management.

The squad assembled is one of the best and probably the best paid side in the division. They have the capabilities of defeating most sides in the shit league. The problem is….. We don’t. The management team of Joyce and McGovern appear far too negative. We go out to secure a point, play five defenders plus two defensive midfielders and aim to grind out a clean sheet with any goals scored an extra bonus. Most fans feel that teams should go out to score goals first and foremost. The management sees nil-Nil draws at Darlington and Orient as good results the 1000 fans that travelled to both games think differently. These are points dropped and certainly not worth the travel to London and £15 admission for the Orient fixture.

The season is falling away and unless there is a serious change of tactics there is no way that we will make up a 10-point difference. Another season in the lowest league looks likely and yes the fans are getting pissed off again!

Added to the fun are off the field problems of FA enquiries into the running of the club and court case by two deposed directors. Life as a City fan is never dull but for once, just once, we hoped for something better to happen this season. We are disappointed once again!
