City huffed and puffed in the pouring rain but class tells. Chelsea took the lead with an early goal by Poyet and followed this with an extremely rare event Sutton (Cost Ten Million) scores only his second goal in Britain this season. Citys centre forward David Brown scores towards the end of the first half and Boothferry erupts. We may be a poor Division 3 team but that is now the 4th goal against Premier League opposition this season. Pity we have conceded 15 in the three games however.
The half ended with the optimists hoping we could get another goal back in the second period. A replay at Stamford Bridge would have been a good money spinner for the club. Thankfully tickets for a return leg would only have been 18 not the usual 30-40!
Hopes would soon be stifled by the early period of the second half. Lee Bracey who has now managed to avoid a sending off for at least three whle games flapped at a cross, 2-3 players tried to toe poke it away from danger and Di Matteo buries it in the top corner. This is followed by a header from the classy Gus Poyet. 4-1 to Chelsea game over. All we want to do is go home and get out of the pissing rain. As the game to a close two more goals. A hatrick for Poyet and own goal from Mike Edwards as he deflects a cross from Dennis Wise.
6-1. A humiliating score line but on reflection this was against a side who can put 5 past Man Utd. City can let 3 goals in against shit like Shrewsbury so the depth in class is evident. We scored, the club made some more money from gate receipts and TV coverage (Sky & Match of the Day) and possibly the best player on the pitch was one of our side. The mighty Theodore Whitmore showed the watching public why he has been voted Jamaicas best ever player, won 98 caps and apparently Coventry have bid 3Million for him. He will probably have gone by Christmas but if we get 1-2 Million the club will finally be set up and completely free from debt. The deal for Whitmore is really just a marketing exercise to sell him onto a bigger club and agents, previous clubs and player will get a nice % of any deal. Still 1-2 Million for a free transfer from Jamaica isn’t bad.
WE can hope that the money will be used wisely and in many peoples opinion this would include replacing Warren Joyce as manager. A club with potential, some money and future Super Stadium…. You never know we might get a proven experienced manager?
It is back to mediocrity with fixtures against Peterborough and Carlisle this week. The Fans want success and things desperately need to improve. Three years in the Third Division, our patience is wearing thin.
